Despite my noble birth, I do not place myself above other folk. We all have the same blood.
It is my duty to protect and care for the people beneath me.
The common folk must see me as a hero of the people.
I have an insatiable desire for carnal pleasures.
Bartron was born into one of then largest minor house of nobels. He grew up watching his father and uncles mercilessly tear down others for their own selfish gain. The Kain family name is both respected and feared as no one dares to cross them. Its because of this that Bartron turned his back on the family name and joined the town watch many miles away from the city, under an alias, Geoff Baleman. As Geoff, Bartron was picked on and persecuted, however he never lashed out or gave into the teasing. instead he performed many acts of kindness for the poor and defenseless. often giving away the little money he earned as the guard. For this he gained a name for himself within town and he was well liked and even revered among the townsfolk, much to the chagrin of the other guardsmen. He often got the lot of guarding the communal privvey. It was here that he first heard the calling of the gods when one day a butcher was attacked in the privvey by a giant rat that had made its way up from the sewers. Bartron quickly slayed the beast, but knew there would be more, so alone he ventured into the bowels, no pun intended, of the sewers killing hundreds of giant rats. At the end of the sewage tunnels, a dais had been erected and there sat the rat king himself. The battle was intense but in the end, Bartron slew him and retrieved the loot the Rat King had been hoarding. A voice spoke to him urging him to give this to the poor and needy. Following the advice of the voice, Bartron felt the power of the God Infuse him. A final prophecy was whispered to him. “Travel lad. For I will stay with you until you find the one who truly needs your service. You must regain your name and remove the tarnish from the deeds of your forefathers. Rise, Sir Bartron Kain!” That day Bartron packed his bags and left the city, stopping only to reveal himself to the town’s guard, holding aloft his family crest. he warned that should any harm come to its people, an army of Kain will ride in to make sure the perpetrators are punished. It was an empty threat, but even this far out, the name of Kain still held respect and fear. Bartron knew the townsfolk would be alright now. And he set out to find his destiny and the deity that needed his services.
